Steppe Organization for Peace:

Qazaq Youth Initiative for Nuclear Justice
About us
Steppe Organization for Peace (STOP) is an independent youth-led initiative aimed at raising awareness about the humanitarian and ecological consequences of nuclear testing in Kazakhstan.

We advocate for nuclear justice applying a decolonial, feminist, and human-rights based approach.
Our story:

We created this initiative out of intergenerational pain related to the nuclear legacy of the place we call home. As young people, who were born in independent Kazakhstan, our goal is to remind the world once again about the destructive power of nuclear weapons.

OUR MISSION:

By creating a united network of young people from Kazakhstan and Central Asia, we are advocating for nuclear justice on national, regional and international levels.

OUR VALUES

Diversity

We know that voices of young people let alone from the so-called Global South are underrepresented in international platforms. We aim to bring as many voices as we can in our work using an intersectional approach.

Collaboration

We are eager to collaborate with those affected by nuclear weapons use and/or testing communities across the world acknowledging the power of transnational solidarity in achieving nuclear justice.

Decolonial Approach

We recognize that our nuclear legacy is closely interlinked with nuclear colonialism and patriarchy. We are reclaiming our power and agency with the deep care for our history and ancestry, our environment and the great steppes of Kazakhstan.
